Eligibility Confirmation

The Rogers-BSO Development Fund for Black and Racialized Writers is dedicated to Black and People of Colour creators who are Canadian citizens or have Permanent Resident status in Canada. In the case of a writing team, the lead writer of the project must be a BPOC creator.

FOR SCRIPTED CONTENT

When preparing your proposal, please include the following:

  1. A brief summary of your series concept, including genre, logline, key themes and length.
  2. A synopsis of the pilot episode (maximum one page).
  3. Descriptions of the main characters, including their backgrounds, motivations, and arcs.
  4. A high-level outline of the first season (maximum two pages)
  5. A sample of your previous screen-based work, such as a script for a TV hour or half hour series (not including news programming); multiple episodes of a web, animation or children series (20+ pages); or a short or feature film. Samples are not required to have been broadcast on TV or released theatrically. We encourage you to submit a sample that best reflects your voice as a screenwriter.
  6. A personal statement explaining your background, why you are interested in this program, and how your perspective as a Black or racialized writer influences your storytelling.
  7. A current resume or CV highlighting relevant writing and industry experience.
  8. A statement of your ability to commit to the program’s schedule and requirements, including attendance at workshops, meetings, and deadlines for deliverables.

FOR DOCUMENTARIES
  1. Outline the documentry’s purpose, target audience, connection to the documentary subjects, and unique angle. 
  2. Include a brief synopsis, objectives and potential impact. 
  3. Show you have identified a subject(s) that is/are compelling and worth exploring.
  4. Include a one-page synopsis of a previous documentary film that has been broadcast on TV, released theatrically or premiered at an international film festival. List of eligible festivals. 
  5. You must include your credit on the film, dates of broadcast, release, or premiere, and name of broadcaster or exhibitor. 
  6. In order for all projects to be fairly assessed please do NOT include pitch documents in your application.
  7. A personal statement outlining your passion for storytelling, career goals, and the reason for wanting to participate in the program. 
  8. A detailed resume or CV highlighting your writing experience, relevant skills, and any previous industry work showcasing your range and skills. 
  9. A statement of your ability to commit to the program’s schedule and requirements, including attendance at workshops, meetings, and deadlines for deliverables.
