A Bespoke Audience Development Program
CISF Connect is a national audience development initiative that helps Canadian films—particularly those created by Black and racialized filmmakers—reach broader audiences across Canada and internationally.
The program recognizes that successful audience development begins long before a film’s release. Through training, mentorship, direct project support and community-based screenings, CISF Connect strengthens the ability of producers to market their work while building a national network of Film Engagement Specialists who connect Canadian films with local audiences.
How the Program Works
CISF Connect uses a two-pronged approach:
Producer Marketing and Audience Development
Selected producers receive funding and specialized guidance to develop targeted marketing, promotional and audience-engagement strategies. This support helps filmmakers identify their audiences, strengthen the market positioning of their projects and create opportunities for distribution, sales and international exposure.
Film Engagement Specialist Training
CISF trains Film Engagement Specialists to organize and promote community screenings of Canadian films. Participants develop practical skills in marketing, event planning, audience outreach and partnership development, enabling them to create meaningful connections between films and communities.
Building Audiences and Local Capacity
In its second year of operation (2026) the CISF Connect program is focussed on scaling impact, strengthening mentorship structures, and expanding regional and international reach.
